The changes that occur in the snout tip, include changes in the lips (trunks) and teeth (teeth that varied more were the first I1-I1 incisors). See the absurd example of mastodons.
The large reduction of the incisors in turn carried this variation to the canines (becoming "the tip of the snout" canines incorporated all variation). This is clearly visible in the Carnivora, Cervidae and other Artiodactyla and even in Marsupialia in general.
