A EVOLUÇÃO do osso ASTRÁGALUS nos THERIA

The Evolution of the ASTRAGALUS BONE in THERIA

Also referred as Talus or Ankle bone, this element is part of the set of bones that form the TARSUS.
The TARSUS forms the lower part of the ankle joint through its articulations with the lateral and medial malleoli of the two bones of the lower leg, the tibia and fibula.
The ASTRAGALUS articulates with the calcaneus below and navicular in front, forming the ANKLE JOINT.

The study of the astragalus bone gained much importance in paleontology. For this bone is often preserved as fossil records.
